About Me

Music has been my lifelong passion and profession. My journey started young, singing in choirs and performing on stage, and by the time I picked up a guitar at 12, there was no turning back.

Over the past 35 years, I’ve built a career performing on some of the world’s most iconic stages. I’ve sung over 100 roles in 145 productions across the UK, Europe, and Australia. Along the way, I’ve performed in countless oratorios and recitals, including more than 40 solo performances at the Royal Albert Hall—an experience I’ll never forget.

I’ve been lucky enough to train with some of the best teachers in the world, mastering classical technique, musicianship, languages, acting, and stagecraft. Working with opera’s greatest talents, as well as leading conductors and directors, has been a constant source of inspiration and learning.

Now, I’m here to share everything I’ve learned with you. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your skills to the next level, I’d love to help you find joy and success in your own musical journey.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Music (with Honours) – University of Adelaide
  • Advanced Postgraduate diploma (Opera performance) – Royal College of Music, London (Distinction)
  • AMEB Grade 6 Theory (Distinction)
  • Enhanced DBS check to work with children and vulnerable adults.

While singing has always been at the heart of my career, I’ve been playing guitar and bass in bands since my teens. Over the years, I’ve expanded my musical journey by teaching guitar, bass, flute, clarinet, and keyboard, as well as working as a choir conductor, arranger, session musician, actor, and producer.

From my garden studio in Eltham, South East London, I offer lessons that are tailored to suit all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your craft, I specialize in:

  • Singing, Guitar, and Bass Lessons
  • Combining Singing with Guitar, Bass, or Keyboard
  • Music Production, including composition, multi-track recording, mixing, and production techniques

My goal is to make lessons enjoyable, inspiring, and practical, helping you build confidence and creativity while exploring the music you love.

Grant Doyle - Singing, Guitar and Bass teacher

What I Offer

Guitar & Bass

Grant Doyle Bass Guitar

If you’re passionate about the guitar, I’ll help you master the instrument or bass and fully immerse yourself in the world of music. The guitar is a fantastic starting point for your musical journey and an ideal companion for your voice. While I primarily teach rock and pop styles, my classical training and solid foundation in jazz chords and theory allow me to tailor lessons to a wide range of interests and abilities.

Every lesson is customized to fit your unique needs and goals. I draw from a variety of resources, including sheet music, tutor books, online multimedia, and custom exercises, to create an engaging and personalized learning experience. Whether you’re into classic rock, pop hits, or exploring jazz, I’m here to make learning enjoyable and focused on your tastes.

For those looking to gain a recognized qualification, I offer complete preparation for ROCK SCHOOL or Trinity Rock and Pop graded exams. These programs provide structure, clear goals, and a great way to track your progress as you develop your skills.

Grant has been teaching my 10 year old daughter bass guitar (and music theory) for approximately 18 months, in a lovely studio at his home. We have a regular weekly slot, but Grant is flexible when we need to re-arrange occasionally around other commitments. Grant is an engaging teacher, who plans varied and interesting lessons which my daughter enjoys immensely. Highly recommend!

Singing

IIf you’re ready to take your singing to the next level, I offer voice training for all styles, ages, and abilities. My lessons are designed to cover every aspect of vocal performance, including technique, musicianship, languages, stagecraft, microphone technique, and professional etiquette. I encourage students to explore a wide range of genres and expand their repertoire, helping you discover your unique voice and style.

With experience gained from performing in hundreds of concerts, I share practical tips to help you sing with confidence and flair. My goal is to create a supportive and inspiring environment where you can grow as a performer and enjoy every step of your musical journey.

I also specialize in helping guitarists and bassists improve their singing, or singers who want to learn an instrument. This type of training is perfect for singer/songwriters or band members looking to develop as singer-guitarists or singer-bassists. With advanced theory knowledge and experience in arranging backing vocals, I can guide you in combining your skills to achieve a polished and professional sound.

Online Lessons

Since the lockdown in March 2020, I have been offering singing, guitar and bass lessons online over Zoom. I find this to be the most convenient and reliable platform.

If you would like to take lessons from the convenience of your home then please make an enquiry below.

I can advise you on what equipment you will need for effective lessons. There are specific needs for bass students due to the limitations of standard laptop and smart phone microphones.

For singing lessons alone, you will need a separate device from which to play backing tracks, e.g. a Bluetooth speaker or stereo system. One important thing, often overlooked, is that you will need to be able to read your charts and music as well as view the teacher. Therefore, you either need a separate iPad, a multiscreen setup, or go old school with a printer and ring binder!
